Aug. 4, 2022: Birdies has launched the second iteration of its “What are You Running?” campaign. As part of the brand’s ongoing mission to empower and support women, the new campaign features financial pop star Haley Sacks aka Mrs. Dow Jones who runs “Finance Is Cool,” a financial literacy platform that revolutionizes money management by offering people tell-all tools to get ahead—and stay there. With this new campaign, Sacks will be helping Birdies launch its fall 2022 styles, which debuted on Aug. 2 and will continue to roll out through the month of September. These will include some new styles such as the Vesper and Goldfinch, in addition to bringing back beloved Birdies styles such as the Falcon, the Roadrunner and the Cardinal in new autumn colorways. This launch follows the debut of Birdies’ first digital “What Are You Running?” campaign this spring, featuring activist and author, Blair Imani and celebrity interior designer, Brigette Romanek. The ongoing campaign highlights the uniquely dynamic journey of women in charge, and the need for both style and comfort as they “run” various aspects of their life.
Aug. 3, 2022: For fall/winter 2022, Boss delves deeper into what it means to be your own boss with a campaign capturing a group of today’s most influential stars. Next-generation TikTok creator Khaby Lame stars in the campaign, alongside Italian tennis player Matteo Berrettini, German runner Alica Schmidt and British boxer Anthony Joshua. These global brand ambassadors, introduced in the brand refresh campaign last January, each have strategic partnerships and co-designed capsule collections with Boss. And, for the first time in Boss campaign history, legendary British supermodel Naomi Campbell joins the cast. American model Kendall Jenner, world-famous American rapper Future, and South Korean singer and actor Lee Min-ho round out the luminary talents in the campaign, where they talk in their own words about what makes a Boss.
Aug. 3, 2022: Valentino has tapped Zendaya and Sir Lewis Hamilton for its latest campaign. Shot by Michael Bailey Gates, the “Euphoria” actress highlights the brand’s use of the signature Barbiecore-esque Pink PP color with a head-to-toe look featuring the bold color. Formula 1 driver Sir Lewis is also seen in the color in an image shot by Nicolas Kern. The signature hue has sent Valentino into the stratosphere, skyrocketing their notoriety and relevancy within the fashion landscape.
July 27, 2022: Malone Souliers has released its autumn/winter 2022 campaign. This new marketing spot features the brand’s men’s and women’s range of footwear from the Yuri platform in pink satin, or the Claudia cowboy boot for women, or the Dali chukka boot and Andre sandal for men. “Style can sometimes seem like a passive thing – you choose the items you like and allow them to represent you – but it’s very much an active process,” Mary Alice Malone, founder and creative director, said in a statement. “It’s the practice of defining and redefining the self in a way that feels empowering. Through personal style we can communicate with others, but above all it is something we do for ourselves. That’s who this collection is for: the person who takes joy in dressing for themselves, and who draws energy from the feeling this gives them.”
July 27, 2022: Just ahead of the back-to-school season, Gap is celebrating belonging with newly released creative inspired by the children’s book of the same name, “Everyone Belongs,” by Heather Avis. The new fall 2022 GapKids campaign features a wide range of real kids of all abilities and special talents, including those of Avis’s own children with Down syndrome. Concepted by Gap creative director Len Peltier, shot by Jack O’Connor and directed by Lauren Sick, the cast of kids showcase their individual styles and the joy they feel from being who they are and doing what they love. Beyond the campaign, GapKids is hosting its first-ever digital talent show, encouraging kids across the country to participate and show off their very own talents and skills. There will be a call-to-action for families to upload videos of kids performing their talents to social media, using the hashtag #GapKidsBelong, with a range of participants highlighted on future GapKids channels and campaigns. And, to further celebrate belonging, Gap is turning the page on educational barriers by donating 20,000 brand new copies of “Everyone Belongs” to schools in need via First Book, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing learning materials to underprivileged classrooms.
July 26, 2022: First round draft pick AJ Griffin has officially signed a brand ambassador deal with The Athlete’s Foot (TAF), following his selection by The Atlanta Hawks. The Atlanta-based retailer identified the former Duke basketball player for the partnership, with both Atlanta and North Carolina being key markets for the business. As a TAF ambassador, Griffin will make in-store appearances in both North Carolina and Atlanta during the coming months. Each of his appearances will support a local non-profit organization that falls within the TAF Impact focus areas of local/underserved communities, minorities, children in need, empowering women and homeless. “I am so excited and honored to serve as an ambassador of The Athlete’s Foot,” Griffin said in a statement. “From visiting the store while at Duke to get my hands on the newest drops to now having TAF welcome me to Atlanta, I couldn’t ask for a better partner to align with.”
July 14, 2022: Alexander McQueen has launched a new film featuring its Sprint Runner sneaker. Directed by award-winning director and visual artist Sophie Muller, the short film stars singer, songwriter and dancer Mettenarrative. In the film, Mette wears a corset dress with oversized silver metal hook-and-eye detailing and an asymmetric drape skirt in both black and tea rose satin. The dresses are teamed with the McQueen Sprint Runner in classic white. A modern and streamlined variation of a classic running sneaker, the Alexander McQueen Sprint Runner was first seen on the women’s spring/summer 2022 runway. It has a laced, metal free white leather upper and an exaggerated rubber sole. Available in all white with a white counter heel or in white with a contrast black leather counter heel and in seasonal colors reflecting the palette of both men’s and women’s ready-to-wear, all are finished with an Alexander McQueen signature and three-dimensional McQueen seal.
July 11, 2022: Vans has released a campaign with Anderson .Paak for his new “Vanderson” collection. The new campaign, dubbed “Classic Since Forever,” features the eight time Grammy-award winning artist drumming in full ‘70s-inspired Silk Sonic regalia, including his signature mushroom wig and styles from his new Vans collab. Paak’s Vanderson collection features updated takes on the footwear brand’s EPaak Sport along with the classic Authentic and Old Skool silhouettes. More Vans ambassadors will join the “Classic Since Forever” initiative in the coming months as well, with model Paloma Elsesser set to front the fall campaign.
July 7, 2022: Birkenstock highlights the launch of its new #Bold collection – featuring premium updates to its popular Arizona and Boston models – in a new campaign. Takashi Okabe, director of London menswear store Clutch Café, and James Otter, a Cornwall-based master woodworker, star in the campaign. A launch event was hosted on July 6 by Okabe at Clutch Café, which will be one of a limited array of retail partners for Birkenstock #Bold. The new styles are now available at Birkenstock.com, Birkenstock retail stores as well as selected retailers worldwide.
July 7, 2022: The Accessories Council has announced entries are now open for the 4th annual Design Excellence Awards. According to the organization, this year’s awards will celebrate outstanding new and innovative products offering finalists and winners an exciting platform to celebrate their products. Entry categories this year include two footwear groups – over $250 and under $250. Entries are also open for handbags, jewelry, accessories, eyewear, social impact, sustainability and tech.Finalists and the Hall of Fame Winner will be announced on Thursday, Sept. 8 and winners will be announced at an in-person event to be held at Fashionphile’s New York HQ on Wednesday, Nov. 9. Also to be announced in September are the Hall of Fame, NPD Growth Driver and the Blackglama Exclusively by Saga Furs award winners. July 6, 2022: Fendi has released its autumn/winter 2022 ready-to-wear campaign featuring Bella Hadid. Shot in Rome by Craig McDean, with creative direction by Ronnie Cooke Newhouse, Hadid wears women’s artistic director Kim Jones’ latest collection for the Italian luxury house. The collection reworks and pairs geometric prints and sartorial styling. Inspired by Delfina Delettrez walking into the Roman headquarters dressed in a printed blouse stolen from her mother’s wardrobe, Jones excavated the house’s history to rediscover spring/summer 1986: a celebration of Karl Lagerfeld’s love for the artistic movement. “The best place to explore the Fendi archives is through the Fendi wardrobes,” noted Jones. “And these are collections which, although they come from the past, feel very now.”
