Saks Gives the Superhero Treatment to New Christian Louboutin x Marvel Capsule as Exclusive US Partner
Saks is celebrating the launch of the limited-edition Christian Louboutin x Marvel capsule collection of footwear and accessories for men, women and children.
As part of the celebration, Saks, which is the exclusive U.S. retailer for the collection, has unveiled a special window installation and a visual pop-up dedicated to the collection at its New York City flagship, now open through Oct. 17. At the same time, the retailer also noted that it has revealed a visual installation at its Bal Harbour store in Miami.
The NYC window installation brings the launch to life across five windows on the corner of Fifth Avenue and 50th Street, showcasing items from the collection within different scenes from the comic book starring Mr. Louboutin as a superhero. Inside the store, customers can shop the collection and explore the comic book at the pop-up on the women’s shoe floor.
What’s more, the retailer said it is supporting the launch with content across its digital channels, including email, social and site placements dedicated to the collection.
Tracy Margolies, chief merchandising officer at Saks, told FN that the company is “thrilled” to partner with Christian Louboutin to launch this capsule.
“Christian continues to deliver newness and excitement season after season through unique partnerships and excellent craftsmanship, and we are honored that the Louboutin team chose Saks as the exclusive U.S. retail partner for their latest collaboration with Marvel,” Margolies said. “We know this fun and inspirational collection will be the perfect addition to our customers’ everyday wardrobe this fall.”
A fan of Marvel comic-book superheroes since his tweens, the Paris-based footwear guru has designed a capsule collection of shoes, bags and caps dedicated to its universe as part of Marvel parent Disney‘s 100th anniversary celebrations.
The designs are drenched in fantasy and are accompanied by a limited-edition comic book portraying Louboutin as an Egyptian archeologist with extraordinary powers of embellishment. He shares an adventure with Marvel characters including Black Widow, Shuri, Guardians of the Galaxy and the Avengers, too.
Among the elements from Marvel he applied to shoes and bags are Infinity Stones, which stud heels, and the fish scales of Namor, AKA the Sub-Mariner, paying homage to his undersea world. Louboutin also couldn’t resist taking cues from Moon Knight’s silvery, mummy-like wrappings, yielding some of the most audacious styles
Louboutin is no stranger to Disney. Back in 1996 he created several styles for the live action remake of “101 Dalmations” starring his friend Glenn Close. He went on to design a version of the famous “Cinderella” shoe, along with projects for “The Muppets,” “Maleficent” and also “Star Wars.”
The new Christian Louboutin x Marvel capsule collection is now available in select Christian Louboutin boutiques worldwide, on christianlouboutin.com, and at Saks Fifth Avenue New York City and Bal Harbour. Prices for shoes range from $1,195 to $3,995; bags from $2,390 to $3,490, and children’s styles from $545 to $595.
