23 Fabulously Regal Photos of the Royal Family at This Year’s Royal Ascot
The Royal Ascot officially began on June 14 and the royal family did not disappoint with their formal fashions to kick off the annual event. It’s Britain’s favorite horse racing event, which means Queen Elizabeth II would love to be there, but she missed the opening day due to her ongoing mobility issues. Some royal watchers are hoping she will make it to at least one day of the five-day horse race. So far, there hasn’t been a Prince William nor a Kate Middleton sighting either.
Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall led the royal processional around the track, looking fabulous in his tails and her lovely turquoise outfit. Princess Anne was also in attendance, and Princess Beatrice, who arrived with husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, spent a lot of time conversing with her pretty-in-pastels cousin Zara Tindall. Any guest who was invited into the Royal Enclosure (aka VIP seating with members of the palace) had to adhere to a strict dress code.
For women, “dresses and skirts should be of modest length defined as falling just above the knee or longer” and “strapless, off the shoulder, halter neck and spaghetti straps are not permitted,” according to the Royal Ascot’s website. Men also have to follow the rules by wearing “either black, grey or navy morning dress,” plus “a waistcoat and tie, a black or grey top hat, and black shoes worn with socks.” See how well they did in following the fashion guidelines — and pick out your favorite royal outfit of the day.
