Heading into the men’s Final Four, the biggest sneaker story of this year’s NCAA Tournament has been a tale of conflicting allegiances.

Cooper Flagg, the freshman widely considered the best player in college basketball, has mixed allegiances. He signed an NIL deal with New Balance before the season began but is required to wear Nike sneakers because of Duke’s relationship with Nike. The smaller of the two brands will be hoping its patience pays off when Flagg joins the NBA, but until then all his biggest moments are coming in the Swoosh.

Out of the four teams standing heading into the weekend, Nike can lay claim to three because of Jordan Brand’s sponsorship of Florida and Houston. The remaining slot then goes to Under Armour, which has a deal in place with Auburn.

Sneaker choices abound for the best players on all four teams, as the top five all have their own distinct preferences. Below, Footwear News has gathered the go-to models for the best players in the Final Four.

Johni Broome, Auburn: Under Armour Curry Splash 24, Curry 12

Auburn is an Under Armour school, and its star player Johni Broome has favored two models from the Curry line during the men’s NCAA tournament. In addition to the mismatched Curry 12 “What the Bay” (left), he’s also played several games in pair of the takedown Curry Splash 24 customized for his dogs.

Walter Clayton Jr., Florida: Jordan Tatum 3

Florida’s star guard Walter Clayton Jr. has repped Jordan Brand and Jayson Tatum by consistently wearing the Jordan Tatum 3 in two colorways during March Madness: “St. Louis” (left) and another that appears to be a player-exclusive.

LJ Cryer also reps Jordan Brand but with an unexpected choice: Russell Wilson’s One Take 4 takedown model, which he’s worn in the same black, grey and red colorway for the entire tournament.

Cooper Flagg, Duke: Nike Kobe 6 Protro

Cooper Flagg, the consensus no. 1 pick in this summer’s NBA Draft, is in a bit of an awkward place at Duke. He’s required to wear Nike sneakers as a member of the team but has an NIL deal with New Balance. Through the tournament, he’s stuck with the Nike Kobe 6 Protro in the “All-Star 2.0,” perhaps in the belief that it’s largely white treatment would help avoid attention.

Kon Knueppel, Duke: Nike KD 17

Much like his teammate, Kon Knueppel has stuck with one sneaker throughout the tourney. His precise is different though, as he’s played with the KD 17 in a white and blue colorway.
