King Charles Revealed What Brought Him to Tears Ahead of the ‘Gladiator II’ Premiere

King Charles is going Hollywood in honor of the premiere of the highly anticipated Gladiator II sequel. On Wednesday, the king hobnobbed with film and TV industry royalty with a reception at Buckingham Palace marking The Film and TV Charity centenary before heading to the star-studded red carpet.

During the event, hosted by Charles and his wife Queen Camilla, who is on the mend after a chest infection, the monarch spoke with actor Damian Lewis about his wife’s television documentary, Her Majesty The Queen: Behind Closed Doors. Lewis praised the film which focuses on domestic violence, telling the king he was touched by it. “It’s very moving, isn’t it?” Charles responded. “I think BAFTA are interested in it.”

“Will you please give your fellow actors my regards,” the king added. “They are just brilliant in it.”

During a conversation with the doc’s filmmakers, Naveed Chowdhary-Flatt and Kerene Barefield, Charles revealed that he had been “reduced to tears” during a screening of it in Scotland. “I really am very proud,” he gushed.

Elsewhere during the event, King Charles and Queen Camilla met and socialized with actors including Henry Golding, Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story‘s India Amarteifio, and Emily in Paris actor Lucien Laviscount. Camilla did not stay for the entirety of the gathering because of a scheduling change as a result of her illness. They were also joined by the Duke of Edinburgh and the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester.

After the charity event, Charles made an appearance at the Gladiator II premiere at Leicester Square in London. The king arrived on the carpet in a car and stepped out to reveal a dapper black tuxedo with paired with a matching bow-tie, a crisp white button-down shirt, and a matching black-and-white pocket square.

Although Camilla had originally planned to attend alongside Charles, the queen was not at the event. She canceled earlier this week because of her infection, however, People believes her absence is just a precaution as she recovers.
