Team Brazil’s 2024 Olympic Uniforms Include Havaianas Flip Flops
Team Brazil athletes are representing an iconic Brazilian brand at the Paris Olympics, slipping on flip-flops from Havaianas as part of their official uniform. This marks a continuation of the company’s collaboration with the Brazilian Olympic Committee.
The uniforms were presented at an event in Rio de Janeiro on April 17 before the start of the Paris Olympics. Athletes are expected to don their official uniforms again for the Opening Ceremony on Friday.
The Olympic athletes are set to wear classic thong flip flops from the popular brand, designed in a green colorway to represent the country’s flag; in addition to the Havaianas branding, the strap includes the Brazilian flag.
Team Brazil’s uniform is designed by a popular Brazilian fast fashion company known as Riachuelo, which crafted outfits inspired by the country’s culture. The rest of the uniform includes white skirts and pants, striped shirts and a denim jacket emblazoned with “Brasil” on the back; the jackets also feature Brazilian plants and wildlife. Riachuelo has launched a 2024 Olympics collection.
Brazil opted for a more casual look in comparison to some other country’s Olympic uniforms, sparking criticism from some online commentators who viewed the fashion as lacking in innovation.
Havaianas previously partnered with the Brazilian Olympic Committee for the 2020 Olympics, which took place in Tokyo four years after the Rio de Janeiro games. In 2020, the team wore flip-flops during the Opening Ceremony parade, pairing them with green outfits featuring a pattern of green leaves.
Outside the Olympics partnership, Havaianas recently announced a collaboration with Dolce & Gabbana, including four prints designed by the Italian brand; view photos of the colorful collection here. The Brazilian footwear brand also teamed up with Maison Kitsuné this year to produce a Y2K-themed collection. Read more about Havaianas’ numerous collaborations over the years here.
